Why Hydroseed?

Success Rate

Have you ever tried to throw some grass seed out on some bare dirt and couldnt get it to grow?

You are not alone! The average homeowner who wants to fill in a spot here and there has gone through this and has found out its almost impossible to rely on this method.

The components to a hydroseed mix have their own properties to make grass seeding a success.

  • Hydromulch - fine wood fibers used as the carrier for the seed to shoot through the hose at an even rate and designed to soak up moisture to keep watering needs down
  • Grass Seed - top-quality cool-season grass seed produced for our weather here in Iowa. Different types include Kentucky Blue Grass, Turf-Type Tall Fescue, Red Fescue and Ryegrass
  • Tackifier - glue to hold the hydromulch to the soil so a heavy rain or wind doesn't move the grass seed or soil from the job site
  • Soil Ammendments - biological additives, soil stimulants, and growth promoters are a few things we use in our mix to enhance the germination process
  • Fertilizer - key nutrients the soil needs to feed the grass as it begins to grow

Hydroseeding has a very high success rate and can be ready to mow in as early as 4 weeks!

Cost

Sod can cost anywhere from 50 cents up to 1 dollar per square foot. When you're talking about a big area that can add up quick. Hydroseed is a cost-effective grass installation alternative to give you a "sod quality" result.

Hydroseed ranges in cost anywhere from 15 to 50 cents per square foot. Depending upon area, slope of area, and type of grass seed being used. Don't get sucked into using sod because its "easier." Hydroseeding will give you a great result at the fraction of the cost!

Erosion Control

The last thing a homeowner or contractor wants is a newly-graded area washed away from rain. Hydroseed is designed to keep the soil and seed right in its place!  Afterall, hydroseeding was invented in the late 1940's by a Connecticut Highway Department employee named Maurice Mandell as an efficient way to seed the sides of expressway embankments to keep erosion from happening.

We are trained on our products and make sure to use the right hydromulch depending on the application. A flat-gently sloping lawn wont need the high performance mulch that a roadway ditch takes to make it a succesful application. Different hydromulches have "holding" components to keep them from washing after a certain amount of rain.
